# Christian Falk confirms Liverpool interest in Kalidou Koulibaly

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/05/jamie-carragher-calls-for-something-big-this-summer-at-liverpool/) are interested in Napoli central defender [Kalidou Koulibaly](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/01/bayern-munich-interested-in-signing-liverpool-target-kalidou-koulibaly/) according to reputable journalist [Christian Falk](https://twitter.com/cfbayern).

The head of football for Bild confirmed the interest on[Twitter](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1367862882013216770)before ruling out Bayern Munich from the race this summer for the 29-year-old in a [later post](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1367863360109285377).

The confirmation from a reputable source of Liverpool’s interest is an interesting development as Jurgen Klopp is[expected to go in search of centre-back](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12213407/liverpools-summer-targets-who-could-jurgen-klopp-sign) reinforcements this summer.

Kouilibaly has been [linked with a move away](https://talksport.com/football/754496/kalidou-koulibaly-man-city-target-liverpool-man-united-valued-250million-emulate-virgil-van-dijk/)from the Naples club for some time with interest from[different clubs](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/transfer-news/kalidou-koulibaly-chelsea-transfer-ake-18687438) across Europe at various points.

The 29-year-old Senegalese international has made [17 Serie A appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalidou-koulibaly/leistungsdaten/spieler/93128) this season, earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.99](https://www.sofascore.com/player/kalidou-koulibaly/126071) and winning 52 per cent of all duels along the way.

Former Liverpool favourite Pepe Reina, now a teammate of the [43-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalidou-koulibaly/nationalmannschaft/spieler/93128/verein_id/3499) star, [described the defender](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/reina-prossimo-anno-al-milan-poi-potrei-smettere-napoli-magari-torno-da-allenatore-1376797) as ‘something extraordinary’.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing Koulibaly would certainly be a game-changer in the short term and will undoubtedly pique the interest of Kopites, catapulting the Reds almost immediately[back to contention](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) for top honours next season.

However, with two years remaining on his contract at the newly christened Diego Armando Maradona Stadium and a [market value of a staggering £54m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalidou-koulibaly/marktwertverlauf/spieler/93128), it’s a signing that Liverpool would historically not entertain.

When facing the Reds in the regular [UEFA Champions League meetings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalidou-koulibaly/bilanz/spieler/93128/plus/0?wettbewerb=CL), Koulibaly has acquitted himself well, albeit he was rather[left in the wake of Mohamed Salah](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool/liverpool-vs-napoli-highlights-mohamed-salah-goal-fires-reds-into-champions-league-last-16-a4014996.html) for Liverpool’s crucial goal in 2018/19.
