# Clyne set to miss beginning of the season

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne is losing his race against the clock to be fit for the club’s opener against Watford in under two weeks’ time.

According to a report from the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/07/30/nathaniel-clyne-expected-miss-start-liverpool-season/) today, the England international is unlikely to be fit in time for the Reds’ first game of the 2017/18 Premier League season as he continues to nurse an injury.

In recent times, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been the preferred option on the right hand side of defence, and has impressed with some mature displays.

However, Clyne is undoubtedly a key player in Jurgen Klopp’s plans and respective hamstring and back problems are keeping him ruled out.

Although the prospect of not having Clyne available is a blow, the German tactician does have a plethora of options available to him on the right.

Not only is Alexander-Arnold a more than capable deputy for Clyne, but Jon Flanagan and Joe Gomez are two players also able to play at right-back if Klopp opts to utilise them.
