# Cousin of Man City owner fails in attempt to buy Liverpool in £2bn deal

Sheik Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehayan, the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour, failed in a bid to take over Liverpool Football Club in a deal that would have been worth around £2billion.

As reported by the[Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6092431/Cousin-Man-City-owner-failed-world-record-2bn-takeover-Liverpool.html), officials at Liverpool have admitted that chairman Tom Werner did meet with Midhat Kidwai, the managing director of Sheik Khaled’s conglomerate of companies, in New York City, but the club’s major shareholders never met with anybody related to the offer.

Liverpool insist that Fenway Sports Group have no intentions of selling the club at this time, but they are interested in selling a small stake in the club as they seek the investment that they think is needed to push the club on to another level.

A club statement said:

> FSG have been clear and consistent: the club is not for sal but what the ownership has said, again clearly and consistently, is that under the right terms and conditions we would consider taking on a minority investor, if such a partnership was to further our commercial interests in specific marketplaces and in line with the continued development and growth of the club and the team.
