# Dietmar Hamann claims Thiago might not be a good fit for Liverpool

Former [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/19/liverpool-busy-fixture-schedule-remedy-recent-struggles/) midfielder Dietmar Hamann has claimed that summer signing [Thiago](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/08/thiagos-brilliance-against-aston-villa-summed-up-in-one-moment/) may not be the ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

In an interview on [talkSPORT Breakfast Show](https://talksport.com/radio/schedule/2021-01-19/) on Tuesday, Hamann – who played for the Reds as well as Thiago’s former club [Bayern Munich](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dietmar-hamann/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/919) – claimed the Spaniard “slows things down”, adding that some of his “less skilful” team-mates are more adept at a quick passing game which Hamann feels serves Liverpool well.

The 47-year-old, who represented Liverpool[282 times in total](https://www.lfchistory.net/players/player/profile/310), went on to claim that the ‘dynamic’ of Jurgen Klopp’s side could change to suit how Thiago likes to play.

Having signed to [considerable fanfare](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2020/09/highest-profile-player-weve-ever-signed-liverpool-fans-react-as-reds-agree-thiago-fee/) for [£20m in September](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54199589#:~:text=Liverpool%20have%20signed%20midfielder%20Thiago,to%20%C2%A325m%20with%20bonuses.&text=Thiago%20will%20wear%20the%20number,Greece%20left%2Dback%20Kostas%20Tsimikas.), Liverpool fans were denied the opportunity to see the 29-year-old strut his stylish stuff for most of the season so far as he was [injured by a woeful tackle](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool/thiago-alcantara-injury-update-latest-b1764027.html) in the Merseyside derby three months ago.

Since his recent return to action, [Thiago has impressed](https://www.sofascore.com/player/thiago-alcantara/53825) despite the [decline in results](https://www.skysports.com/liverpool-results) from the Premier League champions.

This seems a bizarre stick with which to beat Klopp over Liverpool’s current struggles. Thiago has been the [shining light of late](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/74939/Show/Thiago) in what has been a dramatic loss of form from almost everyone around him.

His added quality in midfield and an [unparalleled eye for a pass](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/thiago-premier-league-passing-record-liverpool-debut/18xsl51y0se791bk4j06rjfwbe) is clear for all to see, and it is [surely only a matter of time](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/thiago-alcantara-inspiring-bayern-munich-s-return-to-top-of-table-hansi-flick-9725) before the midfielder who has [won it all](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago/erfolge/spieler/60444) is having a major say on the outcome of matches for the Reds.
