# ‘Difficult’ – Andoni Iraola confirms triple Liverpool injury blow

**Liverpool suffered their first Premier League defeat of the new season as they were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at Anfield.**

The Reds dominated proceedings until midway through the second half when Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for two bookable offenses.

And since then, the game turned on its head as the likes of Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki got on the scoresheet to give City a headline win.

Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo were notable absentees for Liverpool after picking up injuries during the international break. Dom Szoboszlai was also absent due to a small hamstring injury sustained during the international break.

And Iraola feels the trio face a race against time to be fit enough to play against LASK in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

## Andoni Iraola provides Liverpool injury update

“They are not too big injuries, but we travel to Austria in two days,” said Iraola after the game via the [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/live/cr3el8xwnnxkt#LiveReporting) when asked about Isak, Gakpo and Szoboszlai.

“It will be difficult for them to be ready for the next one.”

Szoboszlai’s injury isn’t believed to be serious, so he could return to the squad against LASK.

Isak and Gakpo have been in fine form for Liverpool this season and were missed vs City. Liverpool will look to have them both back next week when they face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
