# Divock Origi named as potential January target for Borussia Dortmund

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/17/fans-react-as-thiago-delivers-promising-injury-update/) striker [Divock Origi](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/15/diogo-jota-absence-hands-opportunity-to-liverpool-fringe-players/) has been named as a possible January saviour for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

Writing for German publication [T-Online](https://www.t-online.de/sport/fussball/bundesliga/id_89123286/bvb-nach-favre-aus-effenberg-dortmund-braucht-zwei-drei-drecksaecke-.html), former [Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefan-effenberg/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/197) Stefan Effenberg has backed Dortmund to make a move for the 25-year-old, who has fallen massively [out of favour](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/divock-origi-liverpool-leeds-united-19368398) at Anfield.

Origi’s future on Merseyside has come in for [plenty of debate recently](https://www.liverpool.com/schedule/liverpool-origi-klopp-champions-league-19420930) as he sees his [game-time plummet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdaten/spieler/148368) following the signing of Diogo Jota in the summer. The Belgian may seek more first team football as the [rescheduled Euro 2020](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/news/0254-0d41684d1216-06773df7faed-1000--euro-2020-fixtures/) approaches in the summer.

Effenberg suggested that Origi could act as cover for Erling Haaland, who is [currently ruled out](https://www.si.com/soccer/2020/12/02/erling-haaland-injury-borussia-dortmund) with a hamstring injury. He wrote: ”Two other candidates for a winter transfer or at least a loan deal until the end of the season: Divock Origi from Liverpool or Mauro Icardi from PSG. They haven’t played there this season, just sat on the bench.”

The 52-year-old also proclaimed that both Origi and Icadi have ‘proven their skills’ and could be of immediate use to the Bundesliga side, who [recently sacked Lucien Farve](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/dec/13/lucien-favre-sacked-borussia-dortmund-stuttgart-defeat-bundesliga).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Far be it for anyone of a Liverpool persuasion to offer to drive Origi to John Lennon Airport themselves. After all, the enigmatic striker has given Kopites some of the [most joyous moments](https://talksport.com/football/623953/liverpool-divock-origi-merseyside-derbies-forgotten-man-cult-hero/) in the Jurgen Klopp era to date.

There is no denying the former Lille man’s form [has dramatically declined](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/124688/Show/Divock-Origi) since the glorious end to the 2018/19 season but, in truth, even being linked with Dortmund as well as being named in the same breath as the [prolific](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mauro-icardi/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/68863) Icardi is a huge compliment.

There is little value in a loan deal for the Reds, as that would simply leave them without the fee to spend and [one option light](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/124688/Show/Divock-Origi). Should Klopp’s former employers approach with a decent monetary bid, however, the time may have come to say goodbye and thanks for the memories.
