# Duncan Castles claims Jurgen Klopp has ‘done some work’ on Yves Bissouma

Journalist Duncan Castles has claimed that [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/13/leeds-united-could-sign-liverpool-youngster-yasser-larouci-this-month/) manager Jurgen Klopp has taken a hands-on approach in scouting Brighton midfielder [Yves Bissouma](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/12/yves-bissouma-to-snub-liverpool-for-arsenal-move/).

The Reds were [linked](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4267544/liverpool-track-yves-bissouma-as-wijnaldum-replacement-sources) with the Mali international as a possible like-for-like replacement for the [exit-linked Georginio Wijnaldum](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/georginio-wijnaldum-rejects-liverpool-contract-23268560?_ga=2.193420138.611800833.1609908863-1849371206.1607702750), but more recently the 24-year-old has [reportedly](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/yves-bissouma-arsenal-transfer-decision-brighton) expressed a desire to join two former Lille teammates at Arsenal.

Castles told [The Transfer Window Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-transfer-window/id1254836234) of Klopp’s personal interest in the Brighton ace: ”My understanding is that Klopp has done some work to ask questions about Bissouma to people who know him well, which suggests that this is something Liverpool have on a potential list of replacements.”

Bissouma has been enjoying a sublime start to the season despite Brighton’s struggles, [starting every](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/410425/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/1237) Premier League match for the Seagulls and racking up an impressive [passing accuracy of 86%](https://www.sofascore.com/player/yves-bissouma/844842) this season – albeit slightly worse than [Wijnaldum’s 92%](https://www.sofascore.com/player/georginio-wijnaldum/22126).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Ignoring the apparent spanner in the works with the player citing his preference as a switch to north London, Klopp likes to [meet all players](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1287708/Liverpool-transfer-news-Jurgen-Klopp-Timo-Werner-virtual-meeting) before he approves of their arrival at Liverpool, so him personally taking an interest in the scouting of Bissouma should come as no surprise.

Whether a Wijnaldum replacement is even necessary remains to be seen, although the [rhetoric would suggest](https://www.football365.com/news/wijnaldum-rejects-latest-liverpool-offer-and-will-join-barcelona) it may be. Planning ahead for that eventuality is a wise move and we think the Brighton midfielder is among the best possible options, having proven his worth in the Premier League.
