# Emre Can seeking release clause in new contract

Emre Can’s contract talks have been dragging on for months now leading to some fans speculating that the player could well leave the club in the near future with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Juventus all having been linked in the past week.

The German midfielder is in the form of his life and with his contract expiring next summer, he’s eager to start earning a pay-packet that his performances have earned, whether it be at Anfield or elsewhere.

Talks with Can over a new deal have stalled however, as the former Bayer Leverkusen man is demanding a release clause be inserted into the deal, claim the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpol-emre-can-contract-talks-11118208).

Liverpool managed to keep Philippe Coutinho at the club despite Barcelona’s best efforts to sign him and Can doesn’t want to suffer the safe fate as his Brazilian teammate should a bigger club come in for him down the line, and the addition of a release clause does offer him an exit route.

Can is reportedly seeking £100,000-a-week from Liverpool to sign a new deal and the Reds are in a race against the clock to get it done as Can can begin to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards.
