# England starlet Jude Bellingham picks Steven Gerrard as number one

Burgeoning England talent [Jude Bellingham](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/03/20/man-united-emerge-as-front-runners-over-liverpool-to-sign-bellingham/) has picked [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/17/robbie-fowler-claims-ollie-watkins-would-be-perfect-fit-at-liverpool/) legend Steven Gerrard as his ultimate England shirt-swap.

The precocious 17-year-old is currently away as part of the [England squad](https://www.eurosport.com/football/euro-2020/2021/england-squad_sto8349240/story.shtml) for Euro 2020 and has been making a mark despite his fledgeling years.

An all energy midfielder, the former Birmingham City starlet has [gained a reputation](https://www.theguardian.com/football/football-league-blog/2020/feb/20/jude-bellingham-on-the-radar-of-footballs-powerhouses-birmingham-city-midfielder-aged-16) for performing way beyond his years since arriving in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

Asked who would be the England player past or present the teenager would most like to swap shirts with during a Q&A on [the FA’s YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJGHCyGASq8), as cited by [Anfield Watch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1405226138549506051) on Twitter, the midfielder was quick to respond.

> Twitter: Bellingham: “Stevie G, easily to be fair. In fact, no it is not easy, I think him or \[Wayne\] Rooney definitely close.” (@AnfieldWatch)

This isn’t the first time the youngster [described](https://talksport.com/football/889289/gareth-southgate-jude-bellingham-euro-2020-england-squad/) as ‘phenomenal’ has shown admiration for the Reds’ icon – recently [sharing a Gerrard wonder-pass](https://twitter.com/BellinghamJude/status/1399388910069899267?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1399388910069899267%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-23582999442418223725.ampproject.net%2F2106072053000%2Fframe.html) on social media.

Tentatively [linked](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/chelsea-keen-on-jude-bellingham-as-borussia-dortmund-aim-for-100m-deal-inside-football_sto8272943/story.shtml) with a move to Anfield, Bellingham wasted no time in proving he was up to the grade at the elite level – [scoring four and assisting four others](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jude-bellingham/leistungsdaten/spieler/581678) in 46 appearances for Dortmund in 2020/21.

[Replacing](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/30/no-one-can-replace-steven-gerrard-this-title-win-is-for-him-says-henderson) and coming close to emulating player like Gerrard as always seemed a tall order at Anfield.

However, if any youngster looked to have the attributes to do so it’s the [five times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jude-bellingham/nationalmannschaft/spieler/581678/verein_id/3299) teenager.

Albeit likely to already require an eye-watering fee in order to land the [£49.5million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jude-bellingham/marktwertverlauf/spieler/581678) ace, should the desire from both Jurgen Klopp and payer one day be strong enough – perhaps Bellingham can at least wear Gerrard’s numbered red shirt.
