# Ex-Liverpool striker talks up potential Sancho and Werner moves

Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner would both improve Liverpool, according to former Reds striker John Aldridge.

Jurgen Klopp had a quiet time of things in the transfer window last summer, bringing in [no world-renowned players](https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Transfers/129).

It could be set to be a busier summer this time around, however, with [Sancho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/12/28/liverpools-interest-in-jadon-sancho-confirmed/) and [Werner](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/21/reliable-journalist-tips-werner-to-make-liverpool-move/) two of the names linked with moves to Liverpool.

Writing in the *[Irish Independent](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/how-can-liverpool-improve-on-near-perfection-two-or-three-transfer-targets-could-take-reds-even-further-38939515.html)*, Aldridge talked up the idea of the Reds signing one of the pair, admittedly should one of the front-three leave:

> Let’s say Sadio Mane knocks on Klopp’s door in May and says he wants a fresh challenge after winning everything he can possibly win with Liverpool.
>
> At that point, there is no point keeping a player who wants to go, even if you are reluctant sellers.
>
> That’s when Liverpool start to look at players like Sancho. Maybe too at a centre forward like RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, but I suspect Klopp won’t look to make radical changes to his squad unless he has to.
>
> Sancho is an interesting option as he is still only 19, pretty experienced and proven in a strong German league and appears to have all the potential to become a genuine world superstar.
>
> I’d imagine he would be excited by the prospect of joining this Liverpool team, and his brand of high-energy football would appear to be perfectly suited to Klopp’s game plan. But would the club pay an asking price of up to £150million if they didn’t sell one of their big assets to fund the deal?

### Read Liverpool Verdict

Given the money both players would cost – they are valued at [£108 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jadon-sancho/profil/spieler/401173) and [£67.5 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/timo-werner/profil/spieler/170527) by *Transfermarkt*, respectively – I would be shocked if Liverpool managed to sign both Sancho and Werner this summer.

On top of that, there is no need to, considering Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are already at Anfield, for the time being at least.

If I had to choose out of the two, Sancho would be my pick, because I believe he has the higher ceiling.

Werner is a ruthless striker who would likely fit into Klopp’s plans beautifully with his quality and versatility – he has [86 goals in 143 appearances](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timo_Werner#Career_statistics) for RB Leipzig – but Sancho is only 19-years-ol and is already a star.

Despite his tender years, the Borussia Dortmund forward has [12 goals and 13 assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/346300/Show/Jadon-Sancho) in just 19 Bundesliga appearances this season.

He could be seen as as a long-term replacement for either Salah and Mane, in my opinion, and he may be less hellbent on immediately starting every week as Werner, because of his age, although he would likely be keen to get a chance to impress wherever possible.
