# Fabrizio Romano claims Kostas Tsimikas ‘can leave’ this summer

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/20/virals-liverpool-keeping-a-close-eye-on-domenico-berardi/) defender [Kostas Tsimikas](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/03/02/report-claims-galatasaray-keen-on-signing-kostas-tsimikas-on-loan/) has endured a difficult start to life on Merseyside after arriving last summer.

The Greek international was signed from Olympiacos for £11.75million ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12046303/liverpool-sign-kostas-tsimikas-from-olympiakos-for-11-75m)) to act as an understudy for Andy Robertson.

However, persistent injury setbacks and the Scotsman’s consisitent [level of performance](https://www.sofascore.com/player/andrew-robertson/262911) and availability meant Tsimikas found opportunities few and far between.

As a report from [Gazzetta Dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/) claims Serie A side Napoli are interested in taking the 25-year-old on a season-long loan, reputable journalist [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano), as cited by [The Anfield Talk](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1406380166784372739), has suggested a departure could be on the cards.

Capped [eight times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/leistungsdaten/spieler/338070) by Greece, Tsimikas only made [seven appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/leistungsdaten/spieler/338070) for the Reds throughout 2020/21 – playing just [five minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/konstantinos-tsimikas/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/338070/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/31) of Premier League football

Meanwhile, Robertson played a remarkable [50 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/leistungsdaten/spieler/234803) for Jurgen Klopp’s side – including minutes in all 38 league games.

Signing a [quality backup](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/301455/Show/Konstantinos-Tsimikas) for the Scottish left-back was a shrewd move last summer and one that always seemed a necessity.

Neco Williams, capable of [operating at left full-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neco-williams/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/503680), is currently the main understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold – likely to feature in the same fixtures Robertson would also be afforded an invaluable rest.

Therefore, allowing the Greek ace to leave on a temporary basis without another full-back arrival would be an oversight.
