# Fabrizio Romano says Man City ‘close’ to signing Liverpool target Kayky

Manchester City could be about to triumph over [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/10/leipzig-close-to-signing-dayot-upamecano-replacement-boost-for-liverpool/) for the second time in the space of seven days as the Premier League leaders edge closer towards signing Reds target [Kayky](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/28/liverpool-target-kayky-rejects-contract-amid-european-interest/), according to [Fabrizio Romano.](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1359315560291577856?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1359315560291577856%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-17148524673033658028.ampproject.net%2F2101230412006%2Fframe.html)

The Brazilian wonderkid, who has developed in the [Fluminense youth ranks](https://footballtalentscout.net/2020/12/23/kayky/), is believed to be ‘close’ to agreeing a move to the Etihad Stadium, with a reported fee amounting to roughly €17m (£14.9m).

Kayky, who has been [capped at youth level](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kayky/nationalmannschaft/spieler/668265/verein_id/23130) by Brazil, [was also a target](https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/futebol/ultimas-noticias/gazeta-esportiva/2021/01/26/fluminense-perto-de-perder-kayky-para-o-shakhtar.htm) for Ukrainian top-flight club Shakhtar Donetsk.

Having been [heavily linked](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/exclusive-man-city-liverpool-transfer-23414493) with the talented youngster, who has [drawn comparisons](https://jogada10.com.br/fluminense/conheca-o-neymar-canhoto-da-base-do-fluminense/) to compatriot Neymar, Liverpool will be aggrieved to miss out on the hot prospect.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Jurgen Klopp has spoken previously about his [desire to leave a legacy](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-premier-league-jurgen-klopp-18528403) at Anfield, and a recent focus on signing a [host of talented teenagers](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12199260/liverpool-transfer-news-premier-league-champions-close-to-signing-derby-teenager-kaide-gordon) has backed that up.

There’s no doubt that missing out on a teenage sensation who could turn into a star for a major Premier League rival will sting a bit for the Reds. However, the club are currently [embroiled in a tribunal](https://jogada10.com.br/fluminense/conheca-o-neymar-canhoto-da-base-do-fluminense/) over the transfer of another talented teenager in Harvey Elliott, with Fulham demanding £8m for the winger currently enjoying a [successful spell](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harvey-elliott/leistungsdaten/spieler/565822) on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

Therefore, forking out a potential £14.9m investment on a player who is [yet to make a single first team appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kayky/leistungsdaten/spieler/668265) is a risk Liverpool were never likely to undertake.
