# Firmino named as Champions League’s player of the week

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has been named as the UEFA Champions League’s Player of the Week, as reported on the [official club website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/345546-roberto-firmino-champions-league-award).

The Brazilian international assisted the first goal and then scored the second as the Reds comfortably defeated Porto in the first leg of the quarter-final at Anfield.

Firmino will be hoping for a similar performance next week when Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Portugal to seal their place in the semi-finals of the competitions.

Firmino won the award ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-Min, Barcelona’s Gerard Pique and Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong.

Whilst goals have dried up for fellow forward Mohamed Salah in recent months, Firmino has stepped up on numerous occasions with vital goals.

He’ll be looking to get his name on the scoresheet again as Liverpool host Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
