# Former Liverpool youngster Rafael Camacho on the move

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/15/liverpool-fans-mixed-reaction-ben-white-transfer-links/) contract rebel [Rafael Camacho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/22/former-liverpool-man-camacho-still-has-great-relationship-with-klopp/) faces an uncertain future yet again after he left Merseyside in the summer to [return to Sporting CP](https://www.besoccer.com/new/sporting-lisbon-sign-liverpool-youngster-rafa-camacho-662225).

The 20-year-old wing-back sought pastures new despite being [offered a deal to remain at Anfield](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/28/rafael-camacho-leave-liverpool-sporting) but has found that the grass isn’t necessarily always greener on the other side.

A report from Portuguese outlet [O Jogo](https://www.ojogo.pt/futebol/1a-liga/sporting/noticias/quer-dar-um-novo-rumo-a-carreira-e-tem-saida-em-vista-do-sporting-para-janeiro-13135682.html) has claimed that Camacho could well be on the move once again in January, having [failed to break into the Lisbon side’s starting line-up](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rafael-camacho/leistungsdaten/spieler/400831/plus/0?saison=2019).

Camacho made two senior appearances during his time at Liverpool, including [90 minutes in the FA Cup defeat](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rafael-camacho/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/400831/plus/0/saison/2018/wettbewerb/FAC/verein/31) against Wolves nearly two years ago.

The youngster was highly regarded by Jurgen Klopp and it was recently reported that the [pair were still in contact](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1224172/Liverpool-transfer-news-Jurgen-Klopp-phone-call-Rafael-Camacho-Sporting-Lisbon), with the German believed to be [interested in bringing the 20-year-old back](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-shocked-considering-rafael-camacho-buy-back-clause) to Anfield.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

It is difficult to question Camacho’s desire to find first team football, with all avenues seemingly blocked in [Liverpool’s star-studded squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team).

Despite his [versatility](https://www.footballcritic.com/rafael-camacho/player-positions/140944), every position in which the [Portugal under-20 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rafael-camacho/nationalmannschaft/spieler/400831/verein_id/16373) can play is filled by a world-class performer. However, given his failure to find game-time after a move, this is yet another case of being careful what you wish for.

Another highly-rated [former Reds youngster in Bobby Duncan](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/bobby-duncan-explains-decision-leave-20892887) made the mistake of believing he was ready for top-flight action and made the switch to Fiorentina, only to [leave just a few months later](https://talksport.com/football/763093/liverpool-bobby-duncan-transfer-news-fiorentina-derby-county/), and he has since been [training with Derby County](https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/derby-liverpool-bobby-duncan-transfer-4704682). He is [yet to make a senior competitive appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bobby-duncan/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/401543) for any of the four clubs at which he has found himself.
