# Four findings: Liverpool 2-3 Swansea

If the EFL Cup loss to Southampton was a low point to Liverpool’s campaign, this Swansea defeat rivals it not so much in the dreariness but the damage it caused. Granted the Reds were able to find a way to score but the defence was so poor it really didn’t matter.

Liverpool lost 3-2 to Swansea, losing at Anfield for the first time in a year. This loss may prove the most destructive of all towards any challenge for the title. There is still plenty of the season left but this loss vividly exposed some of the squad’s frailties.

The new year has not been kind to Jurgen Klopp or his team. As the club heads into one of the most important runs of the season they are not playing well. Poor timing for a combination of player availability problems has prolonged a period of play that lacks pattern and precision. There may be depth in this squad but it is particularly thin in places it matters most.

After a familiar first half that saw Liverpool dominate but ultimately struggle to break down a side that was both disciplined and defensive, the Reds finished the match a picture of frustration. Despite a number of chances, Liverpool could not make their first-half dominance count and lived to rue missed opportunities almost immediately as the second half started.

In a five-goal fiasco of a second half, the Reds rallied from a two-goal deficit, reaching for a ray of hope to recover a possible victory. Yet, the comeback would be derailed by another episode of dreadful defending.

Here are four findings from the match.
