# Gerrard ‘surprised’ by backroom changes

Ex-Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says he is ‘surprised’ by the departures of Liverpool backroom staff members Mike Marsh and Colin Pascoe.

Assistant manager Pascoe and first-team coach Marsh were let go following the end-of-season review and at the acceptance of manager Brendan Rodgers.

Gerrard said, as quoted in the *Liverpool Echo*: *“I was surprised Brendan Rodgers made changes to backroom staff at Liverpool. I will be interested to hear his reasons why.”*

Sami Hyypia, Rene Meulensteen and Pako Ayesteran have been linked with the vacancies as Rodgers looks to add more experience.

Gerrard, who was unveiled as a new pundit for BT Sport on Tuesday, also had his say on Raheem Sterling’s contract situation:

*“I hope Raheem stays. For his development and stability. The frustrating thing for me would be if he went to another team and was just a squad player.”*
