# ‘Go to the floor’ – Andoni Iraola says Liverpool player was too honest for his own good vs Arsenal

**Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at Anfield generated a lot of talking points.**

Referee Andy Madley took centre stage as a handful of 50-50 calls went against the Reds.

However, the biggest talking point was a potential penalty call involving Alexander Isak. After a cross into the box, the Swede’s shirt was clearly tugged by Jurrien Timber, which prevented him from heading the ball from close range.

Virgil van Dijk claimed Liverpool were unlucky not to have a penalty as he slammed the refereeing standards in a passionate rant.

And now, Andoni Iraola feels Isak was too honest for his own good, adding that Liverpool may have had the decision in their favour if he had hit the ground.

## Andoni Iraola makes brutally honest Liverpool confession

“The Isak one is a clear penalty,” said Iraola via the [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/live/cqev37r8jvvxt#LiveReporting) after the game.

“Because he doesn’t go on the floor, you’re not going to give it? That’s the problem we have with the game. The fact that you are asking me this – that’s the problem we have with the game.

“Because he doesn’t dive and go to the floor. The fact that you are even asking me if he should go to the floor, if he goes to the floor, they call the penalty 100%.

“It should be like this, but it is what it is. Next time, the managers should tell Alex to go to the floor; otherwise they won’t call it.”

There’s no point in mincing our words anymore. The game is absolutely gone if there are 50 cameras across the pitch but infringements like this go unpunished.

And if a player actively has to hit the ground and exaggerate contact to get decisions in his favour, sporting integrity is clearly compromised.

The top brass from the Premier League and the PGMOL need to get together and have a brutally honest conversation because this is becoming a bit of a farce.
