# Graeme Souness believes Erling Haaland is ‘tailor-made’ for EPL

Graeme Souness believes reported [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/03/virals-liverpool-interest-in-jadon-sancho-sees-social-media-boom/) target [Erling Haaland](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/04/16/jamie-carragher-haaland-signing/) is ‘tailor-made’ for Premier League football.

The Reds have been [named among the numerous parties](https://www.football365.com/news/haaland-rules-out-chelsea-six-top-clubs-considered) across European football keen on the Borussia Dortmund goalscoring sensation.

However, signing the 20-year-old Norwegian this summer would prove to be an expensive outlay and any deal may have to wait until 2022 when an [affordable release clause](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4350485/haaland-has-no-release-clause-if-dortmund-miss-out-on-champions-league-sources#:~:text=It%20is%20widely%20reported%20Haaland,Champions%20League%20football%20next%20season.) becomes active.

Amidst the drama of Liverpool’s [postponed clash](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/56960091) with Manchester United on Sunday, Souness found time on [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football) to suggest Haaland would be ideally suited to the English top flight.

> I think, Haaland, looking at him, he is tailor-made for our game.

Signed for just £17.1million from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020 ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50940894)), Haaland has taken German football by storm – producing an incredible goal return of [53 goals in just 56 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/418560) for die Schwarzgelben.

Beyond his goal-getting exploits for his club, the man [hailed](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9365253/Erling-Haaland-Thierry-Henry-praise-lethal-Borussia-Dortmund-star.html) as ‘lethal’ by Premier League [Hall of Famer](https://www.premierleague.com/hall-of-fame), Thierry Henry, has also netted [six goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/nationalmannschaft/spieler/418560/verein_id/3440) in just 10 Norway outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

It’s hard to disagree with Souness here. Often strikers have [struggled to adapt](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/gallery/25-high-profile-strikers-forwards-who-flopped-premier-league) to the pace and physicality of the English top-flight – two [assets](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/315227/Show/Erling-Haaland) the bulwark has in abundance.

Whoever signs Haaland would automatically gain a monumental upper hand for seasons to come over their domestic rivals.

Having already netted [102 career goals in 150 senior appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/418560), the Norwegian has already become a richly sought after asset.

Ultimately, from a Liverpool perspective, the chances of paying in [excess of £150million](https://metro.co.uk/2021/03/26/man-utd-chelsea-real-madrid-told-transfer-fee-sign-erling-haaland-borussia-dortmund-14308910/) in the current climate are hugely unlikely.

Should Haaland stay put until the [mooted £68million release clause](https://talksport.com/football/840397/erling-haaland-man-utd-solskjaer-transfer/) comes around – Jurgen Klopp and co may well fancy their chances.
