# Harry Kewell has long-term ambition to become Liverpool manager

Former Liverpool winger Harry Kewell has admitted that he has long-term aspirations to manage the Reds in the future and says that he is prepared to battle Steven Gerrard in order to get the job.

Kewell, who is currently in charge of League Two side Notts County, has made a bit of a name for himself as a manager after guiding Crawley Town to safety last season and he’ll be looking to do the same with the Nottingham-based side this season.

As reported by the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1014343/Liverpool-Steven-Gerrard-Jurgen-Klopp-Harry-Kewell-Notts-County), the former Australian international said:

> Why wouldn’t you want to manage Liverpool? Liverpool are one of the best clubs in the world. It would be a huge honour. I’m sure I’m going to have a lot of challengers for it. The biggest challenger would probably be Steven (Gerrard). He’d be the first one that they would want to have, but why not set yourself a goal and try and get to that level?

Gerrard is currently managing a high profile club in Rangers, whilst Kewell decided to make a start to his career in the lower leagues and he explained his reasoning.

> It’s easier to learn down the leagues where you are not in the spotlight and you can put your ideas forward, both good and bad. I never thought I’d say this, but I enjoy coaching and management more than I did playing. You can make more of a difference down here. It’s wrong to say you’ve got the hoof the ball in League Two. Players are willing to learn and there is great satisfaction in seeing your ideas implemented. I’m an Aussie and we like to win. So it’s my way or the highway.

The likelihood is that whenever Jurgen Klopp leaves Liverpool, Gerrard will be the man who’ll replace him but Kewell will hope to make enough of an impression to give the club’s owners something to think about.
