# Liverpool dealt transfer blow with £31.5m English youngster set to sign new bumper contract

The transfer window is coming to a close with [just over two weeks](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) left for the Reds to complete their business.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of players across the attack and midfield to bolster their options.

However, the club is yet to conduct any more business since the [signing of Ibrahima Konaté](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/28/liverpool-sign-ibrahima-konate/).

One player that the club has been [rumoured to be interested](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/28/liverpool-suffer-potential-blow-in-quest-to-sign-harvey-barnes/) in is Leicester City youngster Harvey Barnes.

Despite this, it now appears that any hopes of signing Barnes are set to be dashed.

According to [The Athletic’s David Ornstein](https://theathletic.com/2771264/2021/08/16/ornstein-henderson-liverpool-contract-bellerin-arsenal-exit-new-deal-barnes-leicester/?source=emp_shared_article), the 23-year-old is set to sign a new bumper contract with the Foxes…

As cited by [Anfield Watch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1427175226270486532) above, Leicester are clearly eager to tie Barnes down to a better deal.

The young Englishman has been fantastic for the club since his breakthrough and has proven to be a useful player.

Liverpool are right to be interested in the attacker with his versatility and age which perfectly fits the club’s interests.

Barnes fits the Reds’ transfer policy to a tee and has great potential to grow especially under Jurgen Klopp.

Even with the Englishman signing a new deal, this doesn’t mean the club will disregard their interest.

With a current [market value of £31.5million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harvey-barnes/marktwertverlauf/spieler/398065), Barnes would already cost a fair amount prior to the new contract.

However, with the proposed new deal, a fee for Barnes would no doubt be much higher for Liverpool in the future.
