# Henderson eager to get back into starting XI

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has revealed that he is working hard to get himself back into Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup, according to a report on the official [club website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/316842-jordan-henderson-liverpool-psg).

Henderson has often found himself on the substitutes bench so far this season after returning back to club football late due to England’s World Cup progress to the semi-finals.

Henderson missed pre-season and has been given time to recover from his efforts in Russia, meaning that Klopp started without the captain in the first match of the season. Gini Wijnaldum has made a very impressive start to the campaign and even managed to score the opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

With the Reds playing so well, the manager has tried not to change the team too much but he did recall Henderson to the starting side against Leicester City.

Henderson said:

> I came back later than everybody else so I can’t expect to just come straight back in.

> The lads worked so hard in pre-season and you can see the benefits already in how fit they are and the rhythm they have got from playing games. So it’s normal for me that I’m not playing, I can accept it. It just means I’ve got to keep working hard, improve and take my chance when it comes.

> I totally respect the players around me and how well they’re playing, and the manager as well; he always decides and he’s always right.

> This is going to be another long season for us hopefully, with a lot of games. So I need to make sure I’m ready and I’m trying to use this period to be as ready as possible.

> I’m trying to get that sharpness and rhythm back really. I suppose that only comes with playing games so I’m looking forward to playing.

Henderson appreciates the competition for places in the Liverpool midfield and understands that it will bring the best out of all the players.

Liverpool host Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League this week and Henderson is hoping to be named as a starter against the French giants.
