# Henderson looking forward to watching Gomez’s development

Liverpool star Jordan Henderson has been speaking of his excitement to observe Joe Gomez’s progression at the club over the upcoming years, as per a report from [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/11490435/jordan-henderson-excited-by-joe-gomezs-potential).

The young defender has started the season in fine form, lining up alongside Virgil van Dijk in the absence of Dejan Lovren.

In Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixtures, they have conceded only one goal and have won all of their four outings so far. This is largely down to their solid defensive unit, complemented by the form of Gomez in recent weeks.

Henderson, who recently signed a new long-term deal at Anfield, has been discussing Gomez’s prospects for the future and lavished praise on the versatile defender.

> He’s already very good but he can be even better. He’s still very young. He’s still improving, still learning and there’s no better place to do that than at Liverpool with the players that he’s got around him and the manager.

Gomez, like his Liverpool teammate Henderson, has departed from Merseyside to join up with the senior England squad as they gear up for fixtures against Spain and Switzerland.

> I’m excited for him because I know how good he can be and he’s got the right mentality as well. He’s very mature for his age. His feet are firmly on the ground and he can be as good as he wants to be.

Following the international break, however, Gomez’s biggest test of the season will await him as Liverpool prepare for a Premier League clash away at Tottenham Hotspur.
