# Henderson reveals chat with Klopp about change in role

Jordan Henderson has revealed that he persuaded Jurgen Klopp to play him in a more attack-minded midfield role for Liverpool.

The 28-year-old has produced two excellent back-to-back performances against Southampton and Porto in the last week.

He turned the game on its head away to Saints, scoring Liverpool’s third goal in a 3-1 win, before excelling in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Having generally been used as a deep-lying No.6 under Klopp, the Reds’ captain has looked more at home further up the pitch.

Speaking to the[https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/apr/10/jordan-henderson-england-jurgen-klopp-liverpool](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/apr/10/jordan-henderson-england-jurgen-klopp-liverpool)*[Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/apr/10/jordan-henderson-england-jurgen-klopp-liverpool)*, Henderson went into interesting detail about his conversation with Klopp, in which he told his manager about altering his role:

> Me and the gaffer just had a conversation.

> Obviously he saw the England games. I felt good playing in that position. I felt more natural and it was something he said he would think about.

> I can do both positions and he sees I can do both. It’s basically what he wants and needs.

> I felt more comfortable and natural in that position for England, creating chances further up and doing what I enjoy doing.

> At the same time when I played No 6 I felt I’ve learned that position really well.

With Fabinho the undisputed first-choice in that defensive midfield role, using Henderson in a more attacking manner makes total sense.

Forever a divisive figure, he has silenced the doubters in the last tow games and can play a huge part between now and the end of the season.

With both Henderson and Naby Keita shining against Porto, Georginio Wijnaldum may find it hard to get back into the team for Sunday’s crucial visit of Chelsea in the Premier League.
