# Huddersfield preparing bid for Danny Ward

Danny Ward played an integral part for Huddersfield last season, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League for the very first time, saving penalties in both the semi-final and final of the Championship play-offs.

The 24-year-old stopper will begin pre-season with the Liverpool first-team squad but [a decision is yet to be made](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-return-danny-ward-future-13192719) on where he will be playing his football next season.

Ward himself has spoken about his future, claiming that he hopes to stay at Huddersfield on loan for the 2017/18 season, as quoted by the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/815034/Liverpool-transfer-news-Danny-Ward-Huddersfield):

> On a selfish point, I would like to stay at Huddersfield. I am only young for a goalkeeper and to have a chance of playing week-in, week-out in the Premier League would be good experience for someone of my age.

> It would be more beneficial than being on the bench but, as I say, Liverpool have my contract.

Huddersfield want to keep the Wales international at the club and are believed to be preparing a bid in the region of £5m to sign him on a permanent basis, but would also be content with a loan deal if it presents itself.

Speaking to the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/john-achterberg-mignolet-karius-ward-13207799), however, goalkeeping coach John Achterberg hints that Liverpool will want to keep Ward at the club next season to give themselves options between the sticks.

> He showed good consistency for Huddersfield. We’ll bring him back because we want three good goalies to fight each other.

> It’s going to be a big season next season. If there are any injuries or suspensions, you need to have three top goalies. You need that competition. We need to keep everyone fit and improving so they are ready to take that chance, whenever it comes along.

With Loris Karius expected to remain at Anfield after a shaky first season at the club, many believed that this signalled Liverpool’s intent to offload Ward, perhaps on another loan deal, but it seems they want to keep him in the first-team squad if possible.
