# Hummels: Bayern asked me about Klopp

When Bayern Munich made the shock decision to sack Carlo Ancelotti as manager last week, reports surfaced almost instantly linking Jurgen Klopp with he vacant post.

Klopp, who is closing in on two years in charge of Liverpool, won five major honours during a seven-year spell as manager of Borussia Dortmund between 2008 and 2015, including two Bundesliga titles and in 2013 they reached the final of the Champions League, losing to Bayern Munich.

Bayern were looking for a successor to Ancelotti and Mats Hummels, who was an integral part of Klopp’s Dortmund side and remains close with the Liverpool manager, [confirming that his bosses at Bayern quizzed him about Klopp](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/bayern-munich/story/3220583/bayern-bosses-have-asked-mats-hummels-opinion-of-jurgen-klopp), with speculation suggesting they were looking at appointing the 50-year-old.

> I’m following Jurgen Klopp really closely because of the seven years we had when he coached me at Borussia Dortmund, I was really happy when he had a good start this year, but right now it looks a little tough for him and the club.

> Regarding Munich, they talked to me and asked me something \[about Klopp\] and I said my opinion.

In the summer of 2016, Klopp and his coaching staff all signed six-year contract extensions to stay at Anfield until 2022, which should illustrate his commitment to the project at Liverpool.

Liverpool are clearly tied to Klopp for the long-term and Bayern Muncih appear to be bringing back Jupp Heynckes for a fourth spell as manager until the end of the season, so expect Klopp to Bayern rumours to pick up once again next summer.
