# Ipswich Town interested in loan move for Caoimhin Kelleher this summer

Ipswich Town are reportedly eyeing up a loan move for [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/07/pundit-predicts-summer-departure-for-liverpool-winger-harry-wilson/) goalkeeper [Caoimhin Kelleher](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/16/liverpool-open-contract-talks-with-caoimhin-kelleher/) this summer.

The Irish stopper [rose to prominence in 2020/21](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/429345-caoimhin-kelleher-interview-liverpool-s-laidback-irish-dancing-goalkeeper) with a string of fine displays after leapfrogging experienced Spaniard, Adrian, in the pecking order.

Making both a [Premier League debut](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/425327-kelleher-phillips-and-williams-receive-premier-league-debut-ball#:~:text=Goalkeeper%20Kelleher%20stepped%20in%20for,West%20Ham%20United%20at%20Anfield.) and UEFA Champions League debut, the 22-year-old performed admirably when called upon on both occasions.

Despite impressing on Merseyside, a report from [TWTD](https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/40412/blues-eyeing-liverpool-youngster-kelleher), as cited by [Anfield Watch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1401868625544425474) on Twitter, claims the League One side could land the Irishman for the upcoming campaign.

Overall, Kelleher made [six first-team appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/caoimhin-kelleher/leistungsdaten/spieler/340918) for Jurgen Klopp’s side – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 7.20](https://www.sofascore.com/player/caoimhin-kelleher/827362) across two league outings.

The young Reds’ stopper, an Irish youth international, was [hailed](https://www.fotmob.com/news/1cqhl6222wgjr1g6dx0m6j4o3p/klopp-praises-'top-talent'-kelleher-after-liverpool-clean-sheet) as a ‘top talent’ by Klopp after Liverpool’s all-important group stage win over Ajax.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Under contract [until 2022](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/caoimhin-kelleher/profil/spieler/340918) at the club, allowing Kelleher to leave without an incoming understudy to Alisson would be somewhat of a risk.

Whilst the best thing for the ‘keepers development would be to land regular game time away from Anfield, Liverpool can’t afford to [leave themselves short](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) in the department.

Adrian’s own future is yet to be decided and first-choice Alisson Becker has an unusually poor [injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alisson/verletzungen/spieler/105470) for a goalkeeper.

Outside of the trio are true [youngsters](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/academy), such as Marcelo Pitaluga, Harvey Davies and Fabian Mrozek.

Also, having impressed at the elite level, it’s difficult to see how a loan to League One would be the best Kelleher could manage.
