# ‘Iraola might disagree’ – Steven Gerrard makes strong Liverpool claim

**Liverpool have been in fine form in recent weeks under Andoni Iraola and are really starting to buy into his philosophy.**

At the start of the season, results were mixed as they were getting to grips with their new manager’s tactics.

However, they are now on a run of four successive wins across all competitions and will look to make that five when they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.

Things seem to be clicking for the Spaniard at Anfield, but Steven Gerrard still has some reservations over the Reds’ midfield options.

## Steven Gerrard on Liverpool’s midfield frailties

After losing Curtis Jones in the summer transfer window, Liverpool were linked with a host of midfielders such as Lamine Camara, Manu Kone and Alex Scott.

However, they somehow opted against signing a midfielder as the likes of Trey Nyoni and James McConnell were added to the first-team squad.

Gerrard feels Liverpool could do well with another powerhouse in midfield, name-dropping former Reds fan favourite Fabinho as the kind of player they are missing currently.

“Iraola might disagree and some Liverpool fans might disagree, but I still think Liverpool miss a real strong powerhouse in the middle of the team,” said Gerrard via The Overlap.

“Someone who holds the middle, stops people from playing through them and puts a lot of fires out. Like a Fabinho, for example.

“Mac Allister is good, but I don’t think he’s top at that.”

Stevie obviously knows a thing or two about midfielders and we can’t blame the man for thinking Liverpool could do well with another player in the centre of the park.

Maybe things will change in January…
