# Jamie Carragher lauds ‘frightening’ Mohamed Salah

Former [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/29/pundits-laud-performance-of-liverpool-youngster-curtis-jones/) defender Jamie Carragher has hailed the ‘frightening’ form of winger [Mohamed Salah](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/23/mo-salah-fifa-22-totw/).

The 29-year-old was on the scoresheet twice as the Reds swept aside FC Porto [5-1](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58705850) in Portugal.

That result left Jurgen Klopp’s side clear at the top of Group B and saw Salah reach [eight goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdaten/spieler/148455) in eight appearances this season.

Speaking on [CBS Sports on Paramount+ (28/09/21 at 10:45 pm)](https://www.paramountplus.com/intl/), Carragher couldn’t hold back the love for the Egyptian.

> Mo Salah, I mean we know how great of a goalscorer he is. But the form he is in is frightening, at the minute. Sadio Mane, at times, has blown a little bit hot and cold, so it’s really nice for him to get back on the scoresheet. But Salah, I think he’s very close to breaking Steven Gerrard’s record in Europe. I think that will be broken in the next couple of games, you would imagine.

Salah equalled Steven Gerrard’s record for [European goals at Anfield](https://readliverpoolfc.com/But%20Salah,%20I%20think%20he%E2%80%99s%20very%20close%20to%20breaking%20Steven%20Gerrard%E2%80%99s%20record%20in%20Europe.%20I%20think%20that%20will%20be%20broken%20in%20the%20next%20couple%20of%20games,%20you%20would%20imagine.) with a second-half strike against AC Milan and needs just three more strikes to surpass the legend’s [30 Champions League goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steven-gerrard/leistungsdaten/spieler/3109) for the club.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Few could argue that the [‘Egyptian King’](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-43863092) is currently amongst the very best players in world football.

A remarkable goalscorer for both club and country, even the most strident anti-Salah supporter would concede the [£90million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148455) star is proving everyone wrong.

If the likes of [Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) can click around him, this season could be one of major success at Anfield.

One issue arising from the victory in Portugal was the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the influential right-back [likely to miss](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/445062-trent-alexander-arnold-injury-update) the crunch clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
