# Jamie Redknapp backs criticised Thiago to come good for Liverpool

Former [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/08/virals-harvey-elliott-rounds-off-loan-spell-with-majestic-goal/) midfielder Jamie Redknapp has backed [Thiago Alcantara](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/04/20/kevin-campbell-pins-thiagos-struggles-on-misfiring-trio/) to come good after the Spaniard netted his first goal for the club.

The former Bayern Munich man fired home a [powerful long-range effort](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56953531) to secure an important three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite arriving with all the [furore](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/thiago-alcantara-liverpool-transfer-news-18486458) of an elite signing, Thiago has struggled to show his best form on Merseyside.

Badly disrupted by injury, rotation and an adaptation period, there is no doubt the 30-year-old is [yet to reach the heights](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12219427/thiago-alcantara-struggling-to-impress-at-liverpool-serial-fouling-hints-at-jurgen-klopps-stretched-midfield) expected following his £20million move ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54199589#:~:text=Liverpool%20have%20signed%20midfielder%20Thiago,be%20here%2C%22%20he%20said.)).

However, speaking during [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/11941864/hakim-ziyech-signs-five-year-chelsea-deal-ahead-of-summer-move)‘ coverage last night, as cited by [Football Daily](https://twitter.com/footballdaily/status/1391145797870362626?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1391145797870362626%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.empireofthekop.com%2F2021%2F05%2F08%2Fvideo-jamie-redknapp-backs-criticised-liverpool-star-i-am-convinced-he-is-a-special-footballer%2F) on Twitter, Redknapp has thrown his weight of support behind Thiago.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

There can be no doubting Thiago’s quality, given all the [accolades](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago/erfolge/spieler/60444) earned during an illustrious career.

Taking all the caveats into consideration, including a [knee injury](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool/thiago-alcantara-injury-update-latest-b1764027.html) suffered in the Merseyside derby that ruled him out for almost four months, the Spaniard more or less can be given a free pass.

Next season when a host of [key players return](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/henderson-van-dijk-klopp-liverpool-20479574) and having had time to adapt, Kopites will be hopeful of seeing the very best of Thiago.
