# Joel Matip a doubt for Salzburg clash due to minor injury

There’s a chance that Liverpool could be without defender Joel Matip for Wednesday’s Champions League home game against RB Salzburg after Jurgen Klopp revealed that the defender picked up a knock during the 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday.

Matip has been in outstanding form for the Reds for a long period of time, having kept earning place in the starting line-up after Joe Gomez was selected ahead of him in the first couple of games of the season.

The Cameroon international has established himself as Klopp’s first-choice partner for Virgil van Dijk but he might miss the midweek game.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the game with the Austrian champions, Klopp said:

> Joel Matip obviously got a slight knock at Sheffield, we have to see how exactly it will be.

Matip hasn’t been ruled out of the game and it doesn’t seem like his injury is anything major but Klopp could decide not to take any risks and leave him out, with Gomez almost certainly the player who’ll replace him in the side.
