# Journalist claims Liverpool have ‘asked for information’ on Denis Zakaria

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/07/virals-liverpool-target-joao-felix-looking-for-a-way-out-in-january/) have reportedly asked for information regarding Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder [Denis Zakaria](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/01/virals-liverpool-leading-the-race-to-sign-denis-zakaria/).

The Reds have been [linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/liverpool/denis-zakaria-transfer-pursuit-revived-inviting-midfielder-deal) with the 25-year-old ace for some time and there now appears to be a wealth of interest due to a dwindling contract.

Zakaria is due to become a free agent at the end of the season and Juventus, Barcelona, Arsenal, Roma and Bayern Munich are [all attentive](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1468197681348579336) to the situation.

That’s according to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano who has updated the situation on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1468180996738662402) and on his [Here We Go](https://twitter.com/podcastherewego) podcast.

> Denis Zakaria has received many approaches in the last weeks, out of contract in 2022. He recently changed his agent – Bayern have joined the race, also Liverpool asked for information since he’s with Hasan Cetinkaya. 🔴 [#transfers](https://twitter.com/hashtag/transfers?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

Capped on [40 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/nationalmannschaft/spieler/334526/verein_id/3384) by Switzerland at the senior international level, Zakaria was hailed as [‘outstanding’](https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/he-reminds-me-of-kroos-seven-quotes-about-liverpool-target-denis-zakaria/) by Arsenal ace and compatriot Granit Xhaka.

So far this season the defensive midfielder has [scored twice and registered one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/leistungsdaten/spieler/334526) in 13 appearances across all competitions in a [struggling](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/table) Monchengladbach side.

Having [lost Gini Wijnaldum as a free agent](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/why-gini-wijnaldum-leaving-liverpool-20781054) to Paris Saint-Germain last summer, Zakaria would make for a worthwhile replacement.

Albeit predominantly a defensive-minded operator with capabilities of playing at centre-back, the former Servette man boasts an array of [forward-thinking attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/252419/Show/Denis-Zakaria) and would therefore provide more than just sufficient cover for Fabinho.

Valued at £24.3million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/marktwertverlauf/spieler/334526)), signing the combative Swiss star for nothing would be a superb acquisition for the Reds.
