# Juventus leading Liverpool in race to sign Howedes

Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes is a wanted man this summer.

Liverpool were linked with a move for the German international in recent times, and it looks as though they are not alone in their interest in the experienced defender.

According to a report from Italy today, as covered by the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4818756/Transfer-news-LIVE-Manchester-United-Arsenal-more.html), Serie A champions Juventus are also keen to bring in the central defender in the late stages of the window.

Much has been made about Liverpool’s defensive reinforcements at the start of the season, with a consensus shared by Reds fans that a new centre-back is needed.

However, with Jurgen Klopp insisting he’s happy with his options at the back and with reports suggesting that it’s Virgil van Dijk or no-one for Liverpool this summer, a move for Howedes may prove unlikely.

The 29-year-old is being circled by a number of top clubs in Europe, and the Reds will need to step up their efforts if they are genuinely keen to land Howedes.
