# Juventus unwilling to sell Liverpool target Merih Demiral

Following what was a tumultuous end to the January transfer window for [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/11/dejan-lovren-tips-mohamed-salah-to-remain-at-liverpool/) as they scrambled around to find a central defender with all three senior centre-backs [ruled out for the season](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php), reports emerged of interest from the Reds right across Europe.

One of those [bids was reportedly made](https://sportwitness.co.uk/club-rejected-monster-e57m-offer-liverpool-deadline-day-turned-kabak/) for Juventus ace [Merih Demiral](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/05/liverpool-linked-with-move-for-juventus-defender-merih-demiral/), with a ‘monster offer’ of €57m (£50m) on the table from the desperate Premier League champions.

Whilst clearly tempting, the bid was rejected by the [Serie A champions](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/juventus-extend-run-as-europes-most-dominant-team-with-ninth/12qhr3lrn68i519li3jhc69zuf#:~:text=Juventus%20have%20continued%20their%20reign,over%20Sampdoria%20at%20Allianz%20Stadium.) and they have since acted to close the proverbial drawbridge on future interest in their 22-year-old star.

Italian outlet [Gazzetta Dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Serie-A/Juventus/10-02-2021/demiral-juve-calciomercato-borsa-pedulla-400572725620_preview.shtml?reason=unauthenticated&origin=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gazzetta.it%2FCalcio%2FSerie-A%2FJuventus%2F10-02-2021%2Fdemiral-juve-calciomercato-borsa-pedulla-400572725620.shtml%3Freason%3Dunauthenticated%26origin%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.gazzetta.it%252FCalcio%252FSerie-A%252FJuventus%252F10-02-2021%252Fdemiral-juve-calciomercato-borsa-pedulla-400572725620.shtml) has stated that the Old Lady are now indebted to keeping Demiral, seeing the Turkish youngster as the [natural partner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/merih-demiral/leistungsdaten/spieler/340879) alongside Matthijs de Ligt in the future. In fact, the report stated that ‘Juve has raised the wall, it’s useless to climb’.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Considering the shrewd and remarkably [inexpensive deals Liverpool did pull off](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/feb/01/liverpool-sign-ozan-kabak-and-ben-davies) in the final hours of the window, reports claiming that a bid of roughly £50m was made for Demiral seem far farfetched.

Klopp may well venture back into the central defensive market in the summer, with Ozan Kabak [essentially on a six-month loan](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/424520-liverpool-complete-loan-deal-for-ozan-kabak#:~:text=Liverpool%20have%20completed%20the%20transfer,the%20deal%20on%20deadline%20day.&text=He%20will%20wear%20No.19%20for%20Liverpool.) deal, although it would seem that efforts to reignite interest in Demiral would fall on deaf ears.

Other targets such as Dayot Upamecano present far more economical and, most importantly, [attainable options given his release clause](https://talksport.com/football/827076/dayot-upamecano-transfer-man-utd-liverpool-chelsea/).
