# Karius accepts he’s under performing

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has had to be patient for opportunities this season as he remains Simon Mignolet’s understudy.

The German signed for the club in 2016 but has seen chances really limited, making just 11 starts following his move from Mainz.

He did get a run of ten games last season after returning from injury but ever since then, he has been forced to warm the bench.

The German’s chances have fallen in the cup competitions with Mignolet remaining first choice in the league.

Speaking to [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/liverpool/story/3296850/liverpool-champions-league-match-vs-spartak-moscow-a-final-loris-karius), Karius explained that he is learning.

> It was just a few games that were not good. I also just came back from injury. Maybe I wasn’t at my highest level.

> We didn’t play well for a couple of games, I didn’t do so well and this stuff happened. I learned a few things that I can take with me, although it wasn’t positive. I took it with me and it’s more experience.

> This year is a new experience again, it’s the Champions League, so I’m collecting the new experience.

Karius is likely to start once more in the Champions League as Spartak Moscow visit Anfield. The young shot stopper is understanding of the fixture’s magnitude.

> Maybe it’s a bit more pressure, but I think in football you always have the pressure before every game.

> Maybe it’s a final for Spartak and for us. We can also win something, we can finish top of the group. We just need to focus on the positive things.
