# Karma for Ramos as Liverpool revel in Real Madrid exit

Real Madrid were sent crashing out of the Champions League in thrilling fashion on Tuesday night, bringing an end to their period of dominance.

Having won the competition four times in the last five years, a superb young Ajax team won 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, going through to the quarter-finals 5-3 on aggregate.

Liverpool’s painful defeat at the hands of Madrid in last season’s final in Kiev left a bad taste, not least because of Sergio Ramos’ role in proceedings.

The Spaniard’s cynical foul on Mohamed Salah took the Egyptian out of the game, turning the match on its head in the process.

From that moment on, Ramos was public enemy number one in Liverpool, so it was no surprise to see Reds supporters delighted at Madrid’s exit.

Not only that, but Ramos’ lack of involvement made matters even sweeter.

The centre-back is serving a suspension for deliberately getting booked in the first leg, in order to miss the return fixture and be yellow card-free going into the quarters.

Hilariously, his typically snide behaviour backfired in spectacular fashion, with his absence on Tuesday evening no doubt playing a part in Madrid’s exit.

Not only that, Ramos was even filming a documentary about himself on the night, as he watched on in horror from the stands.

It feels like a moment of vindication for Salah, Liverpool fans and anyone of a Reds persuasion, as karma got the better of Ramos.

It was fitting that he played such a key role in Madrid’s humiliation.
