# Keane criticises Henderson after winning penalty for England

Roy Keane has criticised Jordan Henderson for the manner in which he won a penalty for England at the weekend.

The Liverpool captain earned the Three Lions a spot-kick in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Belgium, having gone down after feeling contact in the penalty area.

[Speaking](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/10/12/you-dont-need-to-scream-roy-keane-blasts-liverpool-mans-actions-on-national-duty/) on [ITV](https://www.itv.com/news/sport), however, Keane, was not in favour of the 30-year-old’s antics, accusing him of overreacting:

> I don’t think it’s a penalty. He’s barely touched him. How can a player scream when he touches him on the shoulder?

> He’s screaming. You don’t need to scream.

I do think Henderson went to ground a little easily at Wembley, but there was still definite contact on him from Thomas Meunier. It was refreshing to see such antics being punished in the area for once.

Sometimes it feels as though English players can’t win, considering they are so often told they are too nice when it comes to winning penalties.

Some pundits often call for them to be a little more savvy, perhaps like some foreign players who have grown up in that footballing culture, but they then receive criticism when they are.

Keane enjoys stirring things, however, so the Manchester United legend should never be taken too seriously.
