# Keane explains why Liverpool will retain Premier League title

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has outlined why he thinks Liverpool will retain the Premier League title this season, praising them for thriving without key men.

The Reds drew 1-1 away to rivals Manchester City on Sunday – a result that Jurgen Klopp is sure to be content with.

After Virgil van Dijk’s injury led to some even [writing off](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/10/19/liverpools-title-hopes-are-over-after-van-dijk-injury-claims-cascarino/) Liverpool’s title hopes last month, Klopp’s men have won five and drawn one of the six games since, in all competitions.

It has been a superb response to a huge blow, not to mention also having to make do without the likes Fabinho, Thiago, Naby Keita and Joel Matip.

> What I enjoyed most about Liverpool today, as well as their qualities that we know they have and the one or two injuries they have, I always look at teams who have won the league, they have that mindset, the body language, the desire.

> I see a lot of that in this Liverpool team and I still think that it’s going to take a lot to stop this team.

> I know they’re not at their very best, they’re grinding out results, but Jurgen Klopp, in his interview, he’s delighted and thinking that they still turned up here today, with their problems and one or two injuries,Trent getting injured, Milner comes in.

> That’s what winning championships is about, having setbacks, having disappointments but showing a really strong mentality and I saw that today.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

For Liverpool to go to City and outplay them for large periods of the first half, without Van Dijk, Thiago and Fabinho, is significant.

So much was made of an apparent lack of depth at Anfield, and Van Dijk was almost treated like the sole reason for the Reds’ recent success, but that theory is being disproved.

This is a fantastic Liverpool team even without star men – fringe players know their jobs and they can slot in with ease, which is the sign of a top side. They find solutions and don’t feel sorry for themselves.

I think Sunday showed that the champions are favourites to clinch glory once more, with City still not looking the team they once were, failing to dominate games in the same manner as before.
