# Kent would be a “great” signing for Rangers says Ally McCoist

Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes Ryan Kent would be a “great” signing for Steven Gerrard this summer, though he admits the only way the club could sign the Liverpool loanee is on another loan deal.

Kent has been one of the standout players for Gerrard’s Rangers this season, and the Liverpool legend has previously stated his desire to keep the 22-year-old at the club for at least another season.

And according to The Scotsman, McCoist believes extending the winger’s loan deal until the end of next season would be a “great” piece of business for Rangers.

When asked about what Gerrard’s side would need to do in order to make his side the dominant force in Scottish football once again, McCoist replied:

> For Rangers to compete consistently with Celtic at the top of the league they need three or four players. I know they won the Old Firm game at Ibrox and probably should have taken something out of the recent one at Parkhead. But Celtic look to me as if they’ve still got better players so how do you compensate for that? You need to get better players.

> I reckon they need three or four players and I don’t know if they’ll take money for Alfredo Morelos or James Tavernier. Even then, it’s all very well getting that money but you need to replace them because they’re two of the better players. Then the loan deals are up for Ryan Kent and Joe Worrall and your only chance of getting Kent back – and it would be great if they could do it – is probably on another loan.

Kent has scored six and assisted four in 23 league appearances this season for Rangers, but his asking price of around £7million appears to steep for the Scottish side to consider a permanent move.
