# Kevin De Bruyne to miss Liverpool clash with hamstring injury

Manchester City midfielder [Kevin De Bruyne](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/21/kevin-de-bruyne-doubtful-for-liverpool-clash-after-picking-up-injury/) looks likely to miss the Premier League clash with [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/22/klopp-responds-to-his-comments-regarding-who-is-in-charge-of-transfers/) next month after Pep Guardiola confirmed the Belgian would be absent for up to six weeks.

The [reigning PFA Player of the Year](https://www.goal.com/en/news/man-city-midfielder-de-bruyne-beats-liverpool-stars-to-pfa/g0h1skp0eo0a1l1vxx8u5f6qf) picked up a hamstring problem during City’s [2-0 victory](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54038553) over Aston Villa in midweek and his [manager confirmed the absence](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-city-press-conference-live-19680580) will be a lengthy one during his press conference, saying: “Kevin, like the doctor said today after reviewing the scan, will be 4-6 weeks out”

Liverpool welcome their rivals to Anfield on Sunday 7 February, in a match where Jurgen Klopp will be hoping can put the defending champions back in contention at the top of the table – if they [don’t fall even further off the pace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/spielplan/verein/31/saison_id/2020) by then.

The Reds have [hit a worrying slump in recent weeks](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1) just as their closest contenders for the last two seasons have [hit their stride](https://www.skysports.com/manchester-city-results) and currently sit second with a game in hand on the Reds.

Whilst an injury to any player is never something to celebrate, it’s hard not to sense a possible opportunity when [City come to Merseyside](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2020-21/first-team/fixtures-and-results) in early February without [arguably their best performer of the season](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/167/Show/England-Manchester-City).

De Bruyne is [as important to those around him](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/de-bruyne-birds-eye-vision-man-city-most-important-player/18xs7k7q74jgz1u3cjrfp0l1j3) as Virgil van Dijk is to Liverpool, and his absence will very likely be felt in the coming weeks by Guardiola.

Already this season, the 29-year-old has [13 goal involvements](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kevin-de-bruyne/leistungsdaten/spieler/88755) in the Premier League, including an incredible 10 assists. Perhaps his absence is the break that Liverpool need to ease their mounting troubles.
