# Kevin Ratcliffe lauds Liverpool youngster Neco Williams

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/11/17/virals-liverpool-forward-divock-origi-limp-off-for-belgium/) youngster Neco Williams has endured a rather inauspicious start to life as a first-team figure at Anfield.

Despite showing [flashes of quality](https://twitter.com/btsportfootball/status/1333884285636534273) since graduating from the club’s academy, the 20-year-old has struggled to have the desired impact on Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Much of this is down to the [class](https://www.sofascore.com/player/trent-alexander-arnold/795064) of positional rival Trent Alexander-Arnold who plays nigh on every game at right-back.

Williams has found a role within the Wales senior side however and [continues to flourish](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/neco-williams-wales-goal-liverpool-22160653) on the international stage.

As the home nation drew 1-1 with Belgium on Tuesday night in Cardiff, former Everton star Kevin Ratcliffe was full of praise for the full-back on [BBC Radio Wales](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/56118354/page/2) (16/11, 22:26).

Fellow pundit and another ex-Wales international Danny Gabbidon echoed the plaudits whilst appearing on [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/wales-vs-belgium/live/441770) (16/11, 22:26).

The Wrexham-born ace operated in a left-wing back role for Robert Page’s side and was a [constant threat](https://www.sofascore.com/player/williams-neco/927356) to both Belgium and Belarus beforehand.

So far this season the [16-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neco-williams/nationalmannschaft/spieler/503680/verein_id/3864) starlet has played just [97 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neco-williams/leistungsdaten/spieler/503680) for the Reds’ first-team.

This newfound role for Williams certainly gives the Welshman an [alternative string to his bow](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neco-williams/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/503680) and Klopp food for thought.

Just two years his elder, attempting to prise [one of the world’s best](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/ranked-10-best-right-backs-world-trent-alexander-arnold-liverpool-man-city-cancelo) in Alexander-Arnold out at right-back looks to be an impossible task.

If the [£7.2million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neco-williams/marktwertverlauf/spieler/503680) ace can transform into a more versatile operator, perhaps there is a long-term future on Merseyside yet.
