# Klopp blames Salah’s shoulder injury for slow start to season

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Mohamed Salah’s body was not “perfect” at the start of the season, according to a report on the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool/liverpool-mo-salah-champions-league-final-injury-to-blame-slow-start-jurgen-klopp-a4024861.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1545650995).

The Egyptian forward made a slow start to the new campaign after suffering a shoulder injury in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Salah was forced off the field in the first half of the final and left the pitch in tears, with the Reds going on to lose the match 3-1.

Salah managed to play in the World Cup in Russia for Egypt but Klopp has claimed that the forward was still not 100% fit after returning to Liverpool.

Klopp said:

> At the start of the season, part of Mo’s body was not perfect. If you work in an office, if your shoulder is not 100 per cent and it is not your writing hand, then you’re okay.

> But if you’re a footballer, you have to wait until it’s 100 per cent. But we knew he was still a world-class player but we had to wait a little bit. It’s all good.

Salah is now back to his sparkling best, producing a goal and assist to help the Reds defeat Wolves 2-0 in their most recent league fixture.

Klopp has opted to use Salah as a central striker in certain matches this season, a decision which seems to be paying off as the Merseyside club hold a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
