# Klopp confirms Kent will be sold instead of loaned out this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has delivered an update on the future of Ryan Kent, who has been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/07/16/marcelo-bielsa-meets-jurgen-klopp-regarding-ryan-kent-loan-deal/) with both Rangers and Leeds United in recent weeks.

The Reds boss spoke to the media following his team’s 3-0 friendly defeat against Napoli in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon. While fielding questions, he was asked about the young winger’s situation this summer.

Kent had a loan spell at Rangers last season and caught the eye, prompting speculation that he could be heading back to the Scottish Premiership.

However, a number of clubs are thought to be pursuing the Liverpool man, who has featured throughout pre-season, and competition for his signature could heat up towards the end of the transfer window.

The Reds are willing to offload Kent, it seems, but not on a temporary basis. Klopp, as quoted by [Neil Jones of Goal](https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal/status/1155545285462036480?s=21), insisted that the 22-year-old would only be sold permanently if he does indeed depart Anfield this summer.

He said:

> The time is over, I think, for loans, because of his age. The players need to find a place where they can settle. A loan is not an option.
