# Klopp could leave Shaqiri out of Red Star trip

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could opt to leave Xherdan Shaqiri out of his side’s trip to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, [the Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/11/04/jurgen-klopp-keen-avoid-off-field-drama-belgrade-may-leave-xherdan/) reports.

It’s claimed that Klopp is keen to avoid any potential off-field distractions that may arise in his side’s group stage fixture in Serbia, with Shaqiri seemingly likely to be omitted.

Shaqiri is unlikely to be well-received by fans of Red Star following previous alleged provocative behaviour following his international venture with Switzerland against Serbia at the World Cup.

The summer signing has been in good form for Liverpool since arriving from Stoke City but it seems Klopp will see fit to leave Shaqiri on Merseyside for this clash.

Liverpool comprehensively defeated Red Star in the reverse fixture at Anfield and will be keen to maintain their push for qualification to the Champions League knockout rounds.

In doing so, however, Klopp may not have the enigmatic Shaqiri to select. The 27-year-old has scored one goal and assisted two in the Premier League this season.
