# Klopp hits back at Lovren’s critics

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has jumped to the defence of Dejan Lovren, with the player coming under lots of criticism in recent times.

As quoted by [Goal](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/jurgen-klopp-liverpool-dejan-lovren/gekinlqotbnj1vhgj0g7ktn8c), the Reds boss addressed the media ahead of his side’s game against Huddersfield this weekend, and Lovren was certainly a topic of much discussion.

> I don’t wish on one of you that all your mistakes are discussed in public. You cannot even imagine, you have not even an idea about how it feels. The boys, in the first case, are still human beings. It’s kind of like watching an accident and there are people standing around with smartphones instead of helping – I am not this kind of person.

The Croatia international is a heavily-scrutinised player amongst the Liverpool faithful, and has been ever since his £20 million move from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

> We had a normal week and, of course, it was not the nicest week in Dejan’s life, but at the end, it’s only football. We have to know about this and people don’t become a better or worse person after making a mistake in a football game.

> If I think about Dejan, I have much more positive things that I can think about than negative things, still.

Lovren was substituted in the first half of Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat away at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday having endured a nightmare performance against his opponents’ energetic, clinical strike force.

> He is a player of Liverpool and that’s how I treat him, as a member of this family, and it is clear that I will help him if I think I have to help him.

However, Klopp remains adamant that Lovren has what it takes to succeed at the club, and has hit back at his critics.

> Everything is okay, Dejan had a good training week, we will see what we will do for the game. It’s not about the last game in general, it’s about the next one. For Huddersfield, we will go for what we think will be the best line-up.

It looks as though there is little chance of Lovren being excluded in the game against Huddersfield, and Klopp will be hoping that the ex-Lyon defender can repay his unwavering faith.
