# Klopp reveals why he turned down deals to sign Lacazette and Mkhitaryan

[Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with the Gunners on Saturday night, as reported by the Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2018/11/02/why-jurgen-klopp-turned-down-the-chance-to-sign-arsenal-stars-alexandre-lacazette-and-henrikh-mkhitaryan-8099244/), Klopp reveals that he did not want to bring Mkhitaryan to Anfield having previously worked with him at Dortmund.

It was Klopp who signed the player for Dortmund and it was suggested that Liverpool could move for him when it became clear he would be leaving the German club, but he would go on to join Manchester United.

> I had that player. If you have had players, you know more about them. You want to learn about other players. That’s how it is. I knew quite early that he was going this way \[to Old Trafford\] There was absolutely no reason for me to jump in there. That isn’t how we work. We didn’t look for players we had already worked with. If you do that, you know their good, their bad and you wonder whether you will do it again.

Lacazette was another player who was heavily linked with a move to Anfield during his time at Lyon.

Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal were all believed to be in the running to sign the player, but he opted for the Gunners.

> We have Daniel Sturridge. We all know about his potential. Now he’s fit, so hopefully we can use it. And we have Dom Solanke for sure the biggest English talent in the number nine position.

Hindsight suggests that the deals worked out well for both parties given the success Liverpool have had in the market recently.
