# Kovac optimistic about Coman’s chances of playing against Liverpool

Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac delivered a positive update on the condition of Kingsley Coman ahead of the team’s trip to Liverpool in the Champions League.

The Frenchman was forced off in the Bavarian club’s recent Bundesliga outing against Augsburg, prompting fears that he could miss the first leg of the Champions League last 16 fixture at Anfield.

Coman has perennially struggled with an ankle problem, and this appeared to flare up as Bayern narrowly defeated their German counterparts 3-2.

However, Kovac is optimistic that the winger will be available for selection as he looks to gain an advantage ahead of the second leg against Liverpool at the Allianz Arena.

As quoted by [The Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool/liverpool-vs-bayern-munich-kingsley-coman-in-contention-for-return-a4069921.html), the Bayern boss said:

> It will be better hour from hour. It’s another 24 hours to go. He’s had two serious injuries and then at Augsburg, he got a real shock, but we know him very well.

> If he hasn’t got any pain then he will feel ready to play. If it’s painful then it will be more difficult. But again, it’s down to our medics.

Coman is an important player for the reigning Bundesliga champions but has struggled to produce in the final third this season.

From 11 top-flight performances, the former Juventus man has found the net only twice, contributing with one assist in the process.
