# Lallana and Matip set to miss Chester friendly

Liverpool are set to be without senior duo Adam Lallana and Joel Matip for their first pre-season fixture against Chester this weekend.

As reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joel-matip-adam-lallana-chester-14871976), the pair are struggling for fitness and are looking set to sit out of the Reds’ first friendly encounter with Chester.

Matip is still on the road to recovery as he nurses a thigh injury. He sustained the problem in March and following surgery on his leg, is still some way off match fitness.

The central defender will, however, be expected to participate in full training with the first-team squad next week.

Lallana, on the other hand, has no major injury concerns but has been suffering from illness in recent times. He returned for pre-season training earlier in the week but it seems his chances of playing against Chester on Saturday are slim.

Jurgen Klopp is likely to field a team mixed with experience and young talent as Liverpool look to kick their pre-season off with a win.
