# Lee Dixon makes bold Harvey Elliott claim following Chelsea performance

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/29/jurgen-klopp-confirms-injury-worry-for-roberto-firmino/) youngster [Harvey Elliott](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/29/gary-neville-hails-outstanding-harvey-elliott-performance/) put in another eye-catching performance as the Reds were held 1-1 by Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday.

Named in Jurgen Klopp’s side from the outset for the [biggest game of the season](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2021-22/men/fixtures-and-results) so far, the 18-year-old showed maturity beyond his years once again.

Far from being thrown into the deep end, Elliott has already shown signs of becoming a key component of [Klopp’s plans](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-chelsea-klopp-elliott-decision-21428146) this term.

Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has joined in the many admirers of the teenager and told [NBC Sports](https://www.nbcsports.com/) of a rather grandiose likeness.

> He’s probably been Liverpool’s best player. Knowing where the space is, little walks into that space. Listen, I’m going to say something now. He reminds me a little bit like Messi. So far this season Elliott has earned an average [Sofascore rating of 6.87](https://www.sofascore.com/player/harvey-elliott/955245) from three Premier League outings.

Previously described as a [‘special special player’](https://twitter.com/Ebenno88/status/1353378988325003267?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1353378988325003267%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-35707402952164955949.ampproject.net%2F2108132216000%2Fframe.html) by Blackburn Rovers teammate Elliott Bennett, the ex-

Whilst comparisons to a [six-time Ballon d’Or winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lionel-messi/erfolge/spieler/28003) with a record as inevitable as Messi’s could be premature, there are few that could doubt Liverpool have a superstar in the making on their books.

[Confident in possession](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/363982/Show/Harvey-Elliott) and always looking to make things happen, Klopp clearly trusts the player immensely to show faith in a teenager from the start against the European Champions.

If Elliott turns out to emulate even half of what [Messi has achieved](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lionel-messi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/28003) then Kopites can be very excited by the prospect.
