# Liverpool are not “bottling” the title race, says Sutton

It is wrong to say that Liverpool are bottling the Premier League title race, according to Chris Sutton.

The Reds have seen a seven-point lead over Manchester City evaporate, with the champions now one clear with nine matches remaining.

Sunday’s 0-0 draw away to Everton was the latest unconvincing showing by Liverpool on their travels, as doubts creep in about how well they are handling the pressure.

The lead they have lost on City has predictably led to the ‘bottler’ tag being aimed in the Reds’ direction – something that is becoming used more often in the modern game.

Sutton say that it is nonsensical to being labelling Jurgen Klopp’s side in such a manner, however, telling [https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47449256](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47449256)*[BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47449256)* that both title challengers should be lauded:

> Can’t we just say that Liverpool and Manchester City are two great teams – it’s a brilliant title race. This will go to the wire.

> When Manchester City lost earlier in the season to Palace and Leicester and Newcastle, did we say Manchester City are bottling it?

Liverpool remain very much in the title fight and have accumulated the second-best points tally in their history at this stage of the season.

While they may fall short in the end, any talk of ‘bottling’ it does seem wide of the mark.
