# Opinion: Busy schedule perfect chance to shake Liverpool malaise

There are no two ways about it now – [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/18/dermot-gallagher-questions-early-half-time-whistle-mane-liverpool/) are in a slump.

After just [one win in their last five matches](https://www.skysports.com/liverpool-results), a victory which came against an Aston Villa side comprised [entirely of teenagers](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55574199), the Reds have looked [miles off their usual level](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/liverpool/liverpool-are-stuck-in-a-moment-they-are-struggling-to-escape-39951212.html) of late.

Having struck on the perfect combination of style, [attacking menace](https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/comparing-liverpools-front-three-with-the-best-attacks-in-europe-in-2019-20/#:~:text=Liverpool's%20front%20three%20of,the%20best%20attacks%20in%20Europe%3F) and defensive solidity in the last two years, for the last three weeks [Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/18/liverpool-fans-cant-explain-why-minamino-has-been-frozen-out-by-klopp/)‘s side have looked a shell of their former selves.

With even the prolific front three [looking decidedly blunt](https://www.sundayworld.com/sport/soccer/just-what-is-behind-the-sudden-struggle-in-front-of-goal-for-liverpools-fabled-front-three-39980685.html) and the defence often [made up of key midfielders](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3421858), there is a genuine ongoing issue that needs to be resolved.

The remedy could come in the shape of a fixture pile-up.

During Klopp’s trophy-laden reign, the [Anfield side have often been notoriously off the pace](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2021/01/liverpools-43-loss-rate-after-long-breaks-gives-klopp-issue-to-address/) after an unusually lengthy break, and their best football comes when [matchdays are at a premium](https://www.skysports.com/football/leicester-vs-liverpool/408166).

With [five fixtures in the space of a fortnight](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2020-21/first-team/fixtures-and-results), starting with the visit to Burnley on Thursday night and culminating as the Reds welcome [recent title rivals Manchester City](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1) to Anfield on the first weekend of February, Klopp will be hoping his side will have played themselves back into prime form by then.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Despite being far from their best at times last season, the Reds were [finding ways of winning football matches](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool-premier-league-title-champions-30-steps-how-they-did-it-a9586016.html) en route to the Premier League crown – a trait which has often deserted them in 2020/21.

A host of the big game players have suffered dips in form of late and it has had a major adverse effect on the performances.

Whilst many may call for changes, perseverance with those who have produced previously as this hectic schedule approaches may ultimately bear fruit.
